Age at Death:
Aaron M. Campbell lived in Portland, Oregon. He was a father and a beloved son. Aaron had just recently lost his brother to heart and kidney disease and was suffering from depression and suicidal thoughts.
Police were sent to his house to check on his welfare as he was suffering from grief and depression at the loss of his brother. He came out of the house walking backwards with his hands on his head. The police shot him with a beanbag gun when he refused to raise his hands. He ran behind a car and one of the police shot him in the back with an AR-15.
Was justice served?
The police chief called the police's use of force unjustified. Justice was not served because the police officer that shot him was not only not convicted of murder, but was re-instated. In February 2021, this tragic death was investigated by The International Commission of Inquiry on Systemic Racist Police Violence Against People of African Descent. This commission includes human rights advocates from across the world.
