Alexia was an Atlanta native and mother of 2 young boys. Her mom, Felecia, and sister, Ramada, spoke out about her tragic death. Women on the Rise and other members of her community came together to remember Alexia and speak out for justice.
Two Atlanta police officers shot Alexia to death while she was sitting in the back of their squad car. They were called regarding a stolen vehicle and Alexia was found in the stolen pickup truck. They handcuffed her and put her in the back of the police car. The police claim that she escaped the handcuffs and shot at them from the backseat with a gun. They admitted they had not finished searching Alexia before restraining and putting her in the car. Dash cam video was released (back seat camera was off), but you can't see anything. You can only hear gunshots, the police officer saying "put the gun down" repeatedly and Alexia saying "I don't have a gun", then more gunshots. They shot her 10 times.
Was justice served?
As of January 2021 justice has not been served. The officers were exonerated because the District Attorney said there was not enough evidence to bring to trial. Her mother said that even though she had a prior arrest record, there was no reason to kill her. She should have been taken to jail and done her time if convicted of a crime.
