Rayshard Brooks was a 27 year old man, father, and husband. He had three young daughters named Memory, Dream, and Blessing, and a teenager stepson. He was married and they were preparing to celebrate his 8 year old daughter's birthday the next day. Brooks was a loved and cherished man who is dearly missed by all.
On June 12, 2020, Rayshard Brooks was fatally shot by Atlanta PD police officers. APD officers were responding to a complaint that a man was asleep in a car blocking a Wendy's drive thru. Officers performed a breathalyzer test which indicated that Brooks was under the influence. As officers attempted to handcuff Brooks due to being above the legal drinking limit for driving, he began to fight back. Brooks ended up getting loose, proceeding to punch the officer and steal his taser, and run away from the officers and a chase began on foot. Brooks turned half way back to the officer and fired the officers taser at him when the officer responded by firing three shots at Brooks. This resulted in Brooks going into surgery and dying shortly after.

One day after the incident, police chief Erika Shields resigned. The same day one officer was put on administrative leave and the other was fired. Furthermore, one officer was charged with felony murder and 10 other offenses while the other was charged with aggravated assault and two counts of violation of oath.
